MR2 Window Sticker

You can find a scanned image of my MR2's original “window sticker” here. Note that the file is fairly large (about 200KB), so it may take a few moments to download.

My MR2's original window sticker

There is quite a bit of useful information on the window sticker. Not least, of course, is the bottom line - the “list price”. For this vehicle it came to a grand total of $27,939. An awful lot of money, especially when you consider that this car was purchased in late 1992. The reason it was so expensive was because the MR2 was only ever built in Japan. In the early 1990s the Japanese Yen was very strong against the US Dollar, making the cars imported from Japan very expensive when compared to models built in the USA. [Most “Japanese” cars sold in the USA are now built here too.] A 1995 MR2 Turbo with the same equipment as my 1993 model was about $35,000 - more expensive than a Corvette at that time! This was ultimately the cause of the mk2 MR2 (and quite possibly the Supra) being discontinued in the USA in 1995 when other contries continued to receive it right up until it was replaced by the mk3 in late 1999.

The factory-fitted extra-cost options on my particular car are:

Some people have reported that the LSD was standard on 1993 model year MR2 Turbos, but my window sticker would appear to indicate that it was in fact optional. It think the only factory option this car doesn't have is the leather interior. I believe that remote keyless entry (TDSE) was a dealer-fit option.

The estimated fuel consumption figures of 20 mpg city and 27 mpg highway are, in fact, pretty much what I get. Not bad for the level of performance available, I believe. For those reading from other countries, remember that these figures are in “US gallons”. A US gallon is only approximately 3.8 liters - a British “Imperial gallon” is about 4.5 liters.
